About the Role

Responsibilities

The Assistant Dean also will lead collaborative efforts to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to recruit, retain, and assist the academic and professional development of a diverse student population, especially students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession

The Assistant Dean will report primarily and directly to the Dean while also reporting secondarily to and collaborating closely with the University's Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Assistant Dean will serve as a critical member of the Law School's senior leadership team and the University's bias incidents response team

This position will collaborate closely with Law School stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, alumni and the legal community

Collect and analyze data, information, and stakeholder input to inform decision-making and make recommendations

Benchmark, analyze, and report on progress toward diversity, equity, and inclusion

Design and implement multi-faceted support services for students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession to enhance their academic and professional success

Develop and administer regular programming to support a diverse student population and to promote cultural competency and cross-cultural awareness

Advise individual students with a special focus on advising and addressing the academic, professional, cultural, and social-emotional concerns of students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds (e.g. religious, socioeconomic, racial, gender/sexual identity, political, immigrants, veterans, and individuals with disabilities)

Provide support and guidance for affinity organizations including but not limited to Black Law Student Association, Hispanic Law Student Association, Women's Law Student Association, Asian Pacific American Law Student Association, First Generation Law Student Association, and Capital Equity Alliance

Facilitate communication, collaboration, and connection among student affinity organizations and between student affinity organizations and the Law School community

Collaborate with student-facing offices, including Student Affairs, Professional Development, Graduate Studies, Law Library, and Academic Success & Bar Services, as well as with senior leadership, faculty, student affinity organizations, and alumni, to shape strategy and coordinate school-wide efforts to foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment and to align departmental work and needs

Collaborate with ACIDE on the design and execution of programming and projects and communications with and outreach to Law School stakeholders

Lead efforts to comply with and enforce University anti-discrimination and human dignity policies, including serving as the Law School representative and pipeline to the University bias incident reporting team

Lead efforts to foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for a diverse student population through programming and training opportunities for the Law School community

Support student recruitment efforts through participation in targeted recruiting events and conferences and engaging with prospective applicants from traditionally underrepresented groups who are considering applying to and/or enrolling at the Law School

Requirements

Qualifications

Advanced degree of master's level or above

A minimum of three years of professional experience in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion goals in an organizational setting

Demonstrated understanding and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion issues as they relate to the legal profession or students in a law school or in a professional school community

Strong interpersonal and counseling skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds

The ability and/or skill to work professionally without supervision and demonstrate considerable initiative

Demonstrated enthusiasm for working with and a commitment to serving diverse student populations, including part-time and non-traditional students

About the Company

The Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will lead collaborative efforts to develop and implement a strategic vision and plan that inculcates diversity and inclusion excellence as a core value throughout all aspects of the Law School community. The Assistant Dean also will lead collaborative efforts to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to recruit retain, and assist the academic and professional development of a diverse student population, especially students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession. The Assistant Dean will report primarily and directly to the Dean while also reporting secondarily to and collaborating closely with the University's Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
