About the Role

Position summary & job purpose:

Tetra Tech is seeking a Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Director to guide Tetra Tech’s GESI integration practice and implementation of international development projects, particularly related to energy, climate change and their nexus with sustainable development and gender equality and social inclusion.



The GESI Director will lead Tetra Tech’s team of GESI experts providing technical support and assisting project teams, governments, energy regulators, companies, and organizations to lift up economies, strengthen energy security, and mitigate climate change and inequalities around the world. The GESI Director will contribute to Tetra Tech flagship projects and programs that: (i) enhance energy security and support energy policy development; (ii) enhance energy planning, markets and trade; (iii) evaluate and integrate renewable and alternative energy sources; (iv) improve energy efficiency and environmental performance; (v) provide access to clean, reliable and affordable energy servicers to unserved or underserved areas; and (vi) advance gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.


Position responsbilites:

Lead the technical GESI practice across Tetra Tech’s global energy portfolio working on business development, thought leadership, client management, project implementation, activity design and managing teams
Develop, implement, and monitor standards of practice for rigorous technical GESI integration in energy and climate change projects and proposals
Identify new clients and business opportunities, lead business development, write proposals and manage client and partner relationships
Represent Tetra Tech as a thought leader speaker at conferences, webinars and on social media platforms sharing global emerging practices related to gender equality and social inclusion at the nexus of energy and climate change, including preparation of papers and knowledge products
Identify, cultivate, and create new partnerships and opportunities to support a broad audience of development, financial, government and private sector actors globally to meet their GESI integration in energy and climate change project and investment requirements and targets via best-in-class technical assistance
Champion the inclusion of GESI concerns across Tetra Tech’s portfolio of energy projects by developing close and effective working relationships with project directors within the company
Apply best practices and the use of rigorous methods to promote governance and investments in GESI, JEDI, and gender lens investment at the nexus of energy and climate change
Work with development, finance, and private sector clients and partner country governments to meet gender equality and social inclusion targets.
Design and direct GESI capacity-building efforts through training and workshops internally and externally
Manage the home office GESI team, plan resources to support technical GESI integration on active projects and to support business development efforts and provide support to GESI project staff globally
Support Tetra Tech’s internal GESI and diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and activities
Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilites (KSAs) required (experience, skills, education, certification, etc.):

Technical KSAs

A master’s degree in gender studies, international development, or related degree.
Minimum of 15 years serving as a gender advisor or in a similar role working on analytical, creative, strategy and implementation aspects
Knowledge of energy, climate, and GESI trends and opportunities in developing countries.
Strong executive presence and entrepreneurial spirit with a demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with partners and a diverse client base to deliver success, growth, and difficult change when necessary.
Experience in institutionalizing and standard/process setting of gender equality and social inclusion technical practices and procedures.
Experience working diplomatically with government, donors, private sector organizations and stakeholders in the design and delivery of gender equality focused policy development, human resource development, training programs to support implementation of energy and climate change project activities.
Demonstrated ability and practical experience in successfully applying gender analysis frameworks and action plan development and implementation for a broad set of multilateral organizations, including USAID, MCC, IFC, and others
Demonstrated ability to identify capacity development needs regarding gender knowledge, attitudes, and practices and contribute to training initiatives to mainstream gender equality for multi-sector experts.
Experience integrating gender into business models in the private sector including gender lens investing and creative investment vehicles, such as gender bonds.
Experience in cross-cutting social inclusion integration at project and organizational levels, including gender-based violence, engaging men as allies, and intersectionality, including but limited to people with disabilities, sexual and gender orientation, age, ethnicity/ race, and beyond
Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, identify and resolve problems and identify opportunities to improve systems and processes
Proven track record of hiring, leading, managing and motivating highly- effective global teams from diverse backgrounds and skillsets
Well-developed interpersonal, communication and listening skills to interact effectively, motivate and collaborate with others from diverse cultural backgrounds to achieve goals
Fluency in English (reading, writing and presentation skills)
Valued but not required KSAs:

Experience supporting developing countries to prepare and/or implement climate change-related strategies, policies and plans.
Experience designing or leveraging next generation and emerging carbon markets.
Experience developing annual work plans, annual reports, budgets, and reporting on indicators.
Experience managing employees.
Experience working with subcontractors and leading teams.
Oral and written communication skills in French or Spanish.
Line management responsibility:

Supervise, coach, and mentor technical gender equality and social inclusion staff, in addition to other project-specific staff as needed.
Physical demands & work enviornment:

Require an estimated 30% of international travel to interact with clients, partners, and country stakeholders.
This position will report out of our office in Arlington, VA, however, there may be flexibility for the candidate to work remotely.
