VICE DEAN FOR DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION
We are excited to share a new opportunity! The Vice Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for GCSOM will partner with an innovative and visionary Dean, Julie Byerley, who is committed and passionate about DEI. The Vice Dean will lead the medical school’s efforts promoting health equity and inclusion, while advancing a diverse learning environment that is optimal for students, faculty, and staff. The Vice Dean reports directly to the Dean and is a core member of the Dean’s cabinet and has a “dotted-line” relationship with the CDEIO for the Geisinger system. This relationship is key to ensuring alignment of DEI initiatives throughout the system.
There is some flexibility around relocation for this role.
The Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, headquartered in Scranton, PA, was established through the grassroots efforts of visionary individuals who foresaw what a community-based medical school would bring to the region and worked to make it a reality. The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC) was incorporated in 2008 and welcomed its first class of Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree students and Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) degree students in August 2009. On January 1, 2017, TCMC integrated with Geisinger Health and became the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM). Today GCSOM has 593 MD/MBS students and 569 residents/fellows and functions with a distributed model of medical education with five clinical regional campuses. Ideal Qualifications for this position include the following:
Master’s level degree is required, a Doctoral degree is preferred.
Minimum of 5 years related work experience and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in leadership roles, preferably in an innovative environment for clinical delivery and education.
Experiences may include leadership experience at the departmental, institute, program, or central administrative level at an accredited medical school, e.g., issues related to budgets and grants management, research development, and the operation of the clinical enterprise/health system clinical partnerships.
Strong record of developing an organizational plan with strategies and tactics that build and advance institutional commitment to diversity and inclusion including demonstrated results improving organizational metrics for DEI.
Successful experience recruiting, developing, and mentoring talented junior and senior faculty members and students.
Track record of building relationships & cultivating partnerships with leaders and constituents in the communities served by the institution. Experience in and a comfort level serving as the public face of the institution is preferred.
Ability to work and manage across a broad network of organizations and relationships to achieve results combined with the ability to work with individuals from diverse, social, racial and economic backgrounds.
Demonstrated ability to influence organizational leaders and gain credibility with excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.
