Leverage an understanding of all dimensions of diversity to work with all leaders and departments to identify, prioritize, and plan for necessary changes in infrastructure and operations that will create a more inclusive, antiracist, multicultural, and equitable Y in philosophy and practice.
Serve as a thought leader on DEIG best practices; support, guide, and influence leaders and departments across the organization to apply a DEIG lens in decision-making and to operationalize practices that foster a more inclusive culture.
Lead and/or manage and coordinate all organizational DEIG groups, including the Diversity, Inclusion, Global Committee (a standing committee of the Board), the DEIG Operational Strategy Team (staff), Employee Resource Groups, and various related taskforce groups.
Lead and/or manage the YMCA of Middle Tennessee’s participation in various national YMCA DEIG councils, committees, coalitions, etc.
Conduct regular DEIG audits, monitor DEIG progress and identify, gather, analyze, and leverage new/existing data and create annual action plans to hold the YMCA accountable to its own goals, objectives and priorities.
Identify and/or facilitate training and development programs to drive the equity and inclusion competencies of staff and volunteers.


Required Certifications
Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training
60 days: Introduction to Listen First (virtual)
90 days: Advancing Equity (six-part virtual series)

Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA.
Knowledge of systemic injustices and inequities with a track record of working through structural and organizational barriers, building consensus, and driving sustainable change.
Must present a professional image and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to influence and relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of a multi-cultural community.
Established reputation as a resilient, diplomatic leader who can transcend differing perspectives, engage a wide range of ideologies and build relationships and community.
Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally, collaborate, and convene working groups across all levels of the organization.
Proven supervisorial leadership, people management, and development skills with the ability to play a day-to-day role in directing staff.
Strong acumen of a volunteer-governed organization, with an appreciation for and/or experience working with a non-profit board.
Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple strategic priorities and deadlines, working either independently or as part of a team. Takes initiative and holds self and others accountable to meet or exceed quantitative and qualitative goals.
Expert presentation and training facilitation skills, both in-person and virtual
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software programs, as well as the ability to use most office equipment is required.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
This position is onsite and requires the ability to travel throughout Middle Tennessee and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Minimum 18 years of age.
Bachelor’s degree and five years experience managing DEI programs/change management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Multilingual a plus.

About the Company

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is seeking a dynamic, proven leader to serve as the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Global Engagement (DEIG). This results-oriented, strategic thinker will provide leadership and direction for all YMCA of Middle Tennessee diversity, equity, inclusion, and global efforts and initiatives in alignment with the Y’s strategic plan and in response to the prevalent DEIG needs in communities the Y serves.

The VP of DEIG is a core leader of the organization and, as such, will need to motivate, communicate, lean into, influence, and hold all levels of the business accountable to DEIG with the highest levels of integrity, honesty, respect, and ethics. This position will lead the YMCA of Middle Tennessee’s DEIG department and report directly to the CEO.
