About the Role

STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Primary Position Function/Summary: The Visiting – Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Coordinator will provide departmental education and leadership in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion for both student athletes and DIA staff.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:


Educate (percentage of time: 75%)

Provide advocacy, education, and advise a sustaining climate of equity and inclusion within the DIA
Facilitate staff education using resources the NCAA Office of Inclusion and mandated diversity and inclusion programs
Engage with donors to share the DIA’s vision and plan for diversity, equity and inclusion
Serve as a member of the Big Ten Equality Coalition
Collaborate with the student-athlete development staff to advise and oversee affinity groups and special programs: International Illini, Illini Allies, EMPOWER, International Women’s Day, Anti-Asian Hate. Gender Equity, and Title IX
Strategic Leadership (percentage of time: 25%)

Aid in the development and implementation of programs and processes which serve to assure the welfare of all student-athletes
Routinely initiate independent communication and interaction of with a wide range of individuals from inside and outside the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics
Work closely with individuals and groups to build relationships and promote sports programs, the DIA, and the University
Monitor processes and systems to ensure compliance with rules and regulations
Use initiative and experiences to resolve issues pertaining to program matters
Foster the strategic vision to staff and coaches as member of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Required: Bachelor’s degree


Preferred: Master’s degree Experience:


Required: 1 - 2 or years of work in developing initiatives and programs in equity, diversity and inclusion


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Maintain knowledge of, and compliance with, specific NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and institution rules that relate to this position is required
Critical understanding of the complexities of minoritized identities and social justice
Demonstrate experience with operational policies and procedures planning, review, and development
Ability to manage multiple collaborative projects and systems in fast-paced environment
Demonstrate excellence in written and verbal communication and organizational skills•Demonstrate strong integrity and character who shares a commitment for knowing and complying with NCAA, B1G Ten Conference and University rules
ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to work a highly variable schedule including nights and weekends

SALARY
Salary will be commensurate with experience


APPOINTMENT STATUS
100 % time of appointment
